Leaving them locked is fine, just will lose fuel economy. Unsure if the front DS balance at say 70mph. I would hope it is fine. I did on my old 09 6.4 for a while.
My 01 Expedition's front is always locked. Hubs and such in the unit bearings are just this way. There is no sort of axle disconnect or anything to help reduce drag.
