I bought Motorcraft 5w-30 synthetic blend and factory oil filter for my truck’s first oil change yesterday and don’t even have the truck yet. I plan to do first oil change around 1,000-1,500 miles, then again at 5,000 with full synthetic, likely Mobil1 with OEM, Molbil1, or Wix filter. I’ll do changes at 5,000 from then on. I don’t follow the OLM, but will reset it at each oil change.
Also plan to change fluid in both axles and T-case around 2,500 miles, if not at 1,500.
You mean to tell me you have 7400 miles on factory oil?
I did the first change at 2000 and thought that was plenty.
Everyone has their own philosophy I guess.
ford and most manufacturers plus equipment manufacturers dont call for early oil changes on factory fill. I do, but accept that it more than likely isn’t necessary.
Yes, that is why I am thinking of changing the filter for the 25% left, according to the oil-life info, then changing the filter again and the oil too when it says to change the oil...
Don’t bother. The filter doesn’t filter enough to make a difference that way. If you’re going to do anything, change both oil and filter.

Well I am thinking more like the filter getting plugged, and the bypass valve opens and no more filtering happening because it's the first oil change, and like most on here I too think there IS a lot more crud in there than is going to be in later oil changes, but why dump the oil if it's still good...
Yes, there is a lot more crud for the first oil change, thus my thinking of changing the filter earlier as the oil itself should still be good according to the oil-life indicator...

That is my thinking too... I would think if an earlier oil change is/would be NEEDED, that is what would be called for by the manufacturer, This early oil filter only, change... is just my idea of extra protection, in case the filter is overwhelmed by some extra crud from the braking-in period, and filtering stops because the bypass valve opens to allow oil flow to engine. (better dirty oil, than no oil)... But why change the oil if it is still good... ???
Obviously it bothers you if you started a poll. If it doesn't bother you to pay the money for an extra oil change, do it. Pretty simple. My oil gets changed every 5k miles no matter what. My peace of mind may cost more, but I'm happy.

I say change it and move on.
It's not that it bothers me, per say. I am just trying to find out the confidence level others feel about the oil-life indicator... It seems maybe I have asked the wrong questions... Instead of what should I do... what would you do would have been better...
2021 and now has 12,000 KM on it but the oil-life info says there is still 25% more life left in the oil...
Month....the IOLM is based on time and/or use. It will go to 0% in no longer than 12 months. It also should hit 0% at max 10k miles. As Ford states in the manual not to exceed 10k miles between oil changes. So you have at most, 2500 miles to go, and X number of months before you will be changing the oil. I just don't see how changing the filter alone makes much sense. But, just like Ford doesn't specifically say to change the factory fill early, they also don't say to change the filter early. Personal choice.
In no way do I believe the IOLM is testing the oil quality, the parameters are based on vehicle use, operating conditions, and time since last oil service. You can choose to believe it is more "intelligent" than it is.

Is Mobil 1 on the approved list? I didn't thin it was. Just asking, not judging, I have used it in almost every one I've had in the past.
