Aero turbine 4040XL anyone?

Hi everyone - I deleted my truck last year and it was cheaper to get the system with a muffler than a straight pipe. So I have had that for about a year now but, it’s still a bit loud when we are all loaded up towing the trailer somewhere.
I have read good things about the Donaldson muffler but has anyone recently put one of these aero turbines on??
there wasn’t much when I searched and the YouTube videos were mostly Cummins
thanks everyone.

Do diesels use a resonator? I would guess with a DPF and an SCR, they probably don't need one. If you have removed those, then you might want to shop a resonator before going with a new muffler. That resonator is going to be most responsible for the aural torture.

I have an FTE resonator on my '17 in addition to a FloPro 4" exhaust and muffler, and also used an FTE resonator on my '97 along with muffler and 5" exhaust. They make a short one and a long one. I have the short ones, but in retrospect, I think a long one (30") and no muffler would be a better setup than what I have. I highly recommend them, as they are very effective at eliminating drone and taking the sharp edge out of the exhaust.

I have a 4 inch down pipe back exhaust with a 4040xl. It’s pretty comparable to the straight pipe sound. The only thing it really helped with was the drone on the highway at speeds 70-75 mph. Exhaust note is still fairly loud with a nice whistle sound. I have heard that Donaldson makes a muffler that is quiet as stock, I believe its like 50 inches long.

I typically upload the video to YouTube and share that link. Seems work well.

I pulled the trigger. I added the 4040XL into the system. So it’s a flo pro system with a small muffler (quite loud, lots of drone) - aero turbine 4040XL went in front of it. Sounds great in my opinion, no drone, and a lot quieter at idle to. I’ll get a video within the next few days of the sound 👌🏽
Both mufflers are straight through. So I don’t think the performance will change to much. But that’s from a guy with little mechanical experience. I rely on research on forums and the service guys.
