I just installed my 5" cannon this weekend with the muffler. I turned the muffler with the intake opposite of where it should be to make it louder. I am a little disappointed in the sound of the system. This got me to thinking about the design of the muffler. The muffler that I received has a chamber build into the middle. It is a straight though design, meaning I can see though the entire muffler, but like I said before there is a small chamber in the middle. I was just wondering if any of you who have this system can remember what their muffler looked like. By the way my system is a Expandit sytem same as Mark's.
I just turned my muffler to the quite side, and love it.
It did make more noise in the straight pipe direction, but i also had a drone
at around 55-65 mph. My system is the 5" that mark sells.
I don't remember a small chamber, seems that it was a straight pipe with
some divet all around.
I just talked to Expandit about their muffler. They said that the muffler is a straight though design but the core is not all the way through. They said they made these mufflers to elimate the drone in the cab. So if anyone is wanting the truck to be loud I would not go with expandit. I will have to say I have no drone with this system. I am still wondering if these mufflers are the same thing as Mark is selling. I may be getting a straight pipe and getting rid of the muffler all together. Does anyone know how much a muffler delete pipe would cost?
Yeah the one mark is selling does have the chamber in it. Not straight thru. It looked awkward when i got it. Thought that maybe it was an uncompleted muffler, Mark said it was designed for the drone issue.
I have a 5 inch straight pipe and having problems with the drone in the cab. I am looking for a muffler to eliminate the drone and still be able to hear it run. Would appreciate any help in locating a 5" muffler only without the whole kit.
I would contact MBRP and see if they would sell you just the muffler or try expandit. You will not have any drone with the expandit muffler. I can still hear my truck run and definatily hear the turbo much better. Like I said, it is just not loud enough for me.
Thanks. My truck isnt that loud with the 5" straight pipe, compared to a 4" straight pipe. The drone in mine is only at 2500 rpm or more when winding up between gears (6 speed) but it gets annoying when pulling a load.
