I drilled and tapped for a relocated grease fitting. Used a cobalt drill because the axle is very hard. I ended up pulling the kingpin in order to drill clean through because it wouldn’t take grease.
The relocating was necessary on mine as I wouldn’t have been able to connect the grease gun.
I see in the instructions that one or more of the kingpin grease nipples may need to be relocated. After reading a few of these threads, I haven't seen where anybody actually had to do that.
Is that an issue still? I ordered the 5x5.5 kit, and I have a spare set of spindles I plan to use for some bench mock ups before installing on the truck.
I've read that also, where some people might have to relocate the grease zerk and/or install a 90 degree zerk. I didn't have any issue on my 49. I've been involved in a couple of other conversions and we didn't have to change anything on them either.
It doesn't surprise me, these trucks were made in several different factories and I'm sure got parts from several different suppliers so there is bound to be differences.
