Today I bought a 1970 F100, 9 inch , 3rd member in decent shape . It is going in as is with new bearings and seals on axles Rolling chassis is on the horizon.
What's the gear ratio Tom? Also, did you run into any fitment issues when bolting up the caliper to the mounting bracket? I had to notch the caliper "rib" casting to get the bolts to align up.
My kit was also from Speedway

I didn't have any issues with bolting on the caliper to mounting bracket...yet. I am expecting caliper interferences with wheels but haven't tried fit up until after I get the rear diff installed. The gear ratio is 3:50 from a 1970 F100. I will have to get the pinion seal replaced for sure.
When I first put my 9" in, it was from a 1960 F100 with 4:11 gears. I did some wheeling and dealing and ended up with a 3rd member with 2.75 gears and Traction-Lock. The biggest mistake I made was not replacing the clutches in the 3rd member.
Oh well.....just another thing that's been added to the "Someday" list
The 4:11's were fun, but the 2:75's are a lot more practical for highway driving

Mine is open carrier, not much need for Trac Loc as I am not likely to launch it from the lights. Behind the AOD I think the 3.50 will be a nice trade off.
I got the drag strip maybe once a year. Even with the 2.75's I really have to feather it off the line or I just smoke tires like crazy. I do spend quite a bit of time at highway speeds so the highway gears really make sense.
I think you're right, the 3.50 and the overdrive will work out real good
Nice 6C day so back in the garage. I shaved some material off the calipers to clearance from the wheels.
I used the 15" wheels so that I can have the option of running either them or the 16" wheels I have. One more little piece done. I should have my 3rd member in a couple weeks, so I will soon have a rolling chassis again.
Getting close.
I should fire my truck up today, its been a month since I drove it
I'm envious Bobby, haven't driven mine since late October. I'm further ahead on the project than I thought I would be due to a fairly mild Winter. The challenge is finding parts these dsys, so few bone yards left for sourcing parts . I've taken to ordering two of every consumable I find for future maintenance.
Yesterday I mounted the front wheels for mock up and they were still rubbing on the calipers. I decided to use the rims I prepped last fall to get a better look at where the interferences were. Guess what, no rubbing, lots of clearance.I will use the other wheels for the rear. Forward progress. Brake pads with the kit don't quite cut it, the stationary pad hardware does not stay seated on the calipers. I have ordered some from a jobber. If I were doing this again I think I would buy the mounting kit and out source the other components.
Question for you guys that have done the Speedway from disk swap (5x5.5 in my case). I know the components are all various other car and truck parts. Is this true with the flex lines also? Do they fit into the stock location tabs on the frame? Do they take 3/8" fittings for 3/16" flared brake lines?
I don't have the kit yet, but I want to run some hard lines in my engine bay before putting the radiator and rad support back in place.

I have the 5 x 5 1,/2 kit and used the stock mounting tabs. I have not drivem the truck yet but my answer at this point is yes to both questions.
I finally ordered the Speedway disk kit...not the complete kit, but the two separate hardware kits in which case I'll have to buy my own rotors and calipers, and that's fine.
Question for you guys that have been there and done that...
I see in the instructions that one or more of the kingpin grease nipples may need to be relocated. After reading a few of these threads, I haven't seen where anybody actually had to do that.
Is that an issue still? I ordered the 5x5.5 kit, and I have a spare set of spindles I plan to use for some bench mock ups before installing on the truck.
