Searched and cant really find much on the topic but its a serious problem. Truck is a 22 F450 KR about 6K miles on it. I tow almost everyday usually around 20K(construction equipment), I hook up a trailer test the brakes everything works good no issues. About 40-60 minutes into the drive the brakes will just decide to stop working. No error message no trailer disconnected they just stop working, even when you manually use the brake controller. It is defiantly the truck as it happens no matter which trailer I use. I have tried switching the plug when it happens, tried dielectric grease, doesnt change anything. All the lights will still work properly just no brakes. If you shut the truck off for about 15-20mins they will usually come back and again work for 40minutes or so. Truck has been to the dealer and is going back again monday, so far they have done some software update but dont have any real idea what is going on. Anyone else ran into such issues?
Never heard that one before, but many times these situations can be traced back to a poor grounding issue.
Can't say for sure that is your truck's issue, but maybe.
Hookup forsca n and see what's being set .
I had a ton of issue a recently. Truck kept disconnecting trailer ...etc. ran forscan and it was breakaway battery....you would think dash might say that.. But nope just a fault
+1 on the dead breakaway battery. Easy test - bypass it, make sure the brakes function and leave it that way for a day's drive and see if the problem re-occurs. Mine was dead and I got all kinds of screwy reactions with the truck electronics. I bypassed it and it worked perfect every time.
Cant be the breakaway battery, i have tried three different trailers and it happens on all them(one of which is brand new), same scenario. The issue is without a doubt the truck, I will try forscan.
same thing happened to me. But once I had my fifth wheel plugged in to my truck for like 20 minutes, it was perfectly fine. So I figured maybe the battery wasn’t charged enough? Not sure. But it’s working fine now 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
