I have about had it with Ford and their "advanced" features. 2021 Platinum F250 and every single advanced feature has been a struggle on this truck when it comes to modding. It used to be a lot easier to work with or delete components or features, such as Adaptive Cruise. Ford literally told me they could not calibrate my adaptive cruise and this is still breaking regular cruise. Anyway, this is not a rant about that!
Problem: My steering wheel is off by 90 degrees. Solution: Nuke adaptive steering from orbit.
Has anyone successfully deleted adaptive steering from their truck? My understanding is there is a whole bunch of plastic gears and motors in the steering wheel and this system has been known to go bad. I would like to completely delete this system. I heard through the grapevine you could source a Lariat part from Ford and simply delete it on previous year models. Some folks have done that according to my source, but I can't find and reputable information on what parts and how to go about it.
Anyone have any experience here or will I be spending a bunch of quality time in the shop manual again, like I did when I fixed my high beams?
Even if you just know of videos on taking apart the steering wheel and poking around in there, that is a start!
I have not read of anyone successfully deleting Adaptive steering. That includes the previous, 17-19 generation. I know your reasoning has more to do with just the wheel being 90 degrees off, but that issue would be fixed under warranty.
Edit- Nevermind, I realized that this is a truck that has had some extensive modifications.
I think I can still justify it being fixed under warranty since this has clearly happened to others using the truck normally. That said, it is still a little crazy. I think ford has had a lot of known issues with the feature and that combined with supply chain issues has even made them stop offering it as an option for now. I just have to work with a solid local dealership and figure it out at this point. Or hope I can tinker with it and fix it somehow.
Consider me also interested in somehow disabling the adaptive steering on the truck. I have a '17, and it seems that the Steering Effort Control Module has given up the ghost outside the warranty at 52k miles on the odometer (dealership said it's not covered under powertrain). Apparently the only way to replace said module is to rip out the entire steering wheel assembly to the tune of $2k, so I can't justify that just to get my adaptive steering and backup camera guide lines working again.
All I'd like is to somehow disable the stupid warning message that pops up on each start, as well as the warning light on the dash. I can live without the feature, but it annoys me to no end to have to cycle through several error messages each time I start the truck. I'm hoping Forscan might be able to come to the rescue, but I'm also not holding my breath.
