Is it possible to disable adaptive steering locked-on all the time? Started getting alarm message stating adaptive steering malfunction but it clears. Then today it happened again and the steering wheel was at half-over with the horizontal spokes vertical! Driving straight down road with the steering wheel 90* out of whack and I was freaking out wondering if steering fixing to let go and get me in a wreck.
Is this possibly disabled in FORScan to just turn that crap off permanently? I think it is in programming, not mechanical due to intermittent nature of problem.
My understanding from the research I did before I opted for it is that it can’t simply be disabled (without the steering wheel ending up sideways) but it can be removed and disabled in forescan. If you really hate it I’d think about a raptor steering wheel swap out (the adaptive mechanism is in the steering wheel itself).
that said... lots of people with lots of miles and no problems. I’d get it serviced. My guess is your steering angle sensor or another serviceable component is faulting and once replaced will be a non-issue.
I will find some time to take truck into dealer (much as I absolutely HATE doing that) to get them to look at it since it is such a critical item, and so there will be a formal record of attempting to get the problem resolved.
Hopefully there would not be a possibility of the truck going out of control due to loss of steering. When the steering wheel was shifted way off center, the truck was still steering but it is extremely un-settling to have that happen.

I have the exact same problem with my truck! Been at the dealer for 4 weeks now. What did they do to fix it? They are working with Fords help desk but nobody knows ****!!!
When I talked to dealer about looking into the problem they said bring truck in and leave it but could be a few weeks. I cant be without transportation for a few weeks, so I declined.
Not sure what to do about it, I did order a replacement steering wheel but not sure if that is a correct action to take.
No it corrects itself on startup next morning. Steering wheel will snap back to correct position. I tried pulling off to side of road, turn off then back on, did not correct problem. Once the wheel snaps back to correct alignment, it stays right until the next time it mal-functions. Would never know there was a problem until it happens again randomly. Always seems to happen after having driven on the road for a while, otherwise it behaves just fine.
I actually started a thread on if it’s removable before I ordered my truck knowing it was a feature that came packaged with what I wanted but that I was wary of.
lots of stories of suspension work messing up the sensor and causing faults.
fortunately, no issues here yet. At the first sign of trouble I’ll have a raptor wheel and paddle shifters on order, and hopefully clear instructions from here about the forescan steps!
I could kick myself for not ordering an XLT like I was originally planning. The truck is awesome though, except for this issue. I hate how they do these packages.
Welltalked to a tech at the dealer again today, he told me I absolutely could swap out the steering wheel to delete the adaptive steering. BUT then I would create several other problems due to how the adaptive cruise, steering, and ABS braking are all tied in together in control algorithms in the computer. He said he definitely would NOT recommend doing that. So that idea is out the window.

Miht be time to consider a Michigan Lemon Law claim:
Such a shame this problem. Because otherwise this truck is incredible. I think I will just drive it and see what happens. Only occurs after a couple hours on a road trip; probably is a clue there. And not even on every road trip either.
I put a retrax pro bed cover on, Fox shocks, Fox ATS, tinted windows, and Ravelco anti-theft so I really dont want to trade it in if I dont have to.
OP, I get this is frustrating as I just had this same issue myself. I would think it would be wiser to give the service center a chance to fix the system prior to trying to remove a feature that :
1)you paid for
2)is a benefit to you while driving
3)the next owner will expect to be functional
It’s a creature comfort that went out and is an inconvenience. Your trucks build purpose hasn’t been compromised. If you move into a new house and your garage door opens and closes on its own you don’t remove the door, you fix it. You might feel like you’re at risk but the house still does what it was built to do.
Man, I’m just saying to give them a chance to fix it, as crappy as it is to deal with the service center , before you open up a new truck and try to change stuff out yourself. That’s why you bought a new truck.. to have a warranty.
