After finishing my rear main, I refilled the trans with about as much fluid as I took out according to the oil catcher. About 5 quarts.
However, when I look at the dipstick at hot idle the dipstick is impossible to read... one side says way way too much, the other side says Im a little over.
I'm an over thinker, I know most people would move on with their day. But since its the trans I don't want to mess it up.
The lowest dry spot on the dipstick shows the actual level. The stick drags on the tube and spreads the fluid higher, usually just on one side. Ignore that side and read the other side.

Thanks Mark. I took it on a long test drive, got it nice and hot. Then, I cycled the gears.
According to the lowest side of the dipstick, the level is good.
