I’m having a small starting issue thats been getting on my nerves.
My truck will not start unless I touch the gas pedal. I DONT have to put the gas petal to floor. I Just have to feather it and as soon as I do, it comes right to life. If you don’t use the pedal, it will turn over till the battery dies.
Once it’s started, it idles super low for about 3 to 5 min then idles normal.
The temperature outside doesn’t matter. It does this in 90 degree and below freezing weather
This problem does not affect the driving ability at all. Once I’m started and going I feel not change. Runs very well.
Starts right back up after she’s warmed up. But if you let it sit for an hour or so i will have to feather the gas to get it started again.
Iv changed my coolant sensor thats on top of the intake, kinda behind the distributor and Iv ran some injector cleaner through my fuel changes. It hasnt really helped.
What did help was putting high octane fuel in my truck. One night I filled up on 91 octane and the next morning it started right up and it was about 30 degrees that morning.
Has this happened to anyone else?
any information is greatly appreciated 😁
Check for codes, even if CEL isnt on, could have stored codes, have 2 tanks, and happens on both? checked fuel pressure with gauge? last time fuel filter was changed?

my rear tank has never worked due to bad fuel pump. I haven’t changed my fuel pump in while so I’ll check for codes and do that. Just didn’t think that would simulate me feathering the gas is all. I hate the fuel filter change on these trucks. Weird design

Sounds like a potential issue with coolant or intake temp (forgot year so MAF would be different than speed density)
A coolant sensor pegging low or stuck low or something like that but maybe still "changes" enough to evade setting a code. you checked codes yet?
otherwise, check your TPS and throttle bodys for being dirty.that extends to cleaning PCV and passageways too. it could be your throttle is restricted because the plates are staying closed and too sealed or your minimum air screw was touched. If so ,your eec is not able to properly control the idle wihin its logic and could also have comorbid issue.
Check your tps for wires, corrosion, 5 volt ref, the return voltage is good and consident in full swing, and the sensor is adjusted to the spec for your engine and year. also, try rocking the sensor for and aft at the moment, does it move? if it moves back and forth that could mess with your ratch and then its wacky wednesday from there as far as IAC and idle and maybe even startup
"kick up"
