Removing door hinge pin to install mirror mount on to hinge.
So before I beat the life out of it, lubricate with too many profanities, I am seeking suggestions/tricks for removal of the existing door hinge pin.
I ended up removing the doors and drilling out the hinges and installing new oversized pins...... definitely not an easy job, I tried lube, beating the crap out of them, heat, nothing worked so drilling was my only option. Good luck and don't be concerned with the profanities..... part of life working on these old trucks!
I had good luck welding a 1/4 bolt head to one of my pins and pulling it using a short pipe and some washers that fit over the bolt head and pin.
I had to drill the other one from the bottom after soaking with penetrating oil for days. Finally got it out by driving a 1/8 punch into the 5/32 hole I drilled. It came out and looked like an inchworm.
There is a tool for that. Its like a C-clamp that simply loops over the door pin head and you pick out the correct spacer and twist its buttom bolt to slowly push the pin out. I am not saying it works 100%. Take it slow. But it worked great on mine. For under $50 it was worth it to me anyways.

I thought this tool worked pretty good, but if the bottom of your pin gets mushroomed due to trying to remove it with a hammer and a punch, then it probably won't as you won't be able to push the pin up past the point of the pin bottom.
Step Zero: See other posts on this.
Step one: Create some new profanities
Step two: Send wife and kids far away for entire day so they do not hear hear old and new profanities, or hear screams, or see tears of frustration streaming down your red face.
Step three: At about 4 hours into it, see step Zero.
hinge in the vice
hammer and pin punch on the pin...once passed the knurl drove out easily
redrill hinge for oversized pins
drive the new pins in with lube
do the next one
did 4 hinges in about 2 hours and I wasn't rushing
John where is you yearly (can't think of the what they are called) Christmas writing. I miss them.
Sorry to hijack the thread.
Merry Christmas to everyone.
Sorry Art, just wasn't up to it this year. Wife had two major surgeries in the last three months I was nurse/maid/cook/ and whatever else needed doing. Took a week off for a Disneyworld trip right before Thanksgiving.... then right after that got hit with some that must have been akin to the black plague and eboli combined From the day after Thanksgiving till this week it's been tough. Better now thanks to antibiotics and Hydrocodone cough syrup (that stuff is good !) Just didn't have it in me to put something together. I'll try to do two next year !!!
Hope you and family have the best Christmas ever and I wish the same for all here on FTE Twenty eight hungry folks start arriving here tonight for dinner and dirty santa...Let the fooding begin !!!
