Can someone tell me what the diffrences were in F350 from years 1986 to 1997??? Not really concerned about motor diffrences but body differences, front and rear axle diffrences, transmissions and Tcase diffrences. How can I tell the difference between a 1987 F350 and a 1997 F350 if they were parked next to each other??? Is there a place on this site that lists what changes took place for each year???
There's lots of cosmetic differences between 87 and 97. You orignially said 86 which is again different then an 87. The 86 has the sunk in square headlamps, the wheels lips sink in then out and the interior is completely different, it square looking with inidcators lined up along the top of the dash. In 87 Ford went to the flat front face. The headlamsp wrap around to the side, the wheel lips flare out and have more of a round appearance, the interior when to a angular dash. 87 was the first year of feul injection and the engines were similar to 86 (ie. 300 I6, 302 V8, 351 V8, 460 V8 and soem type of deisel). I think in 92 the exterior changed to a more aprealling look. The lights are stil flush mounted to the front of the truck but not as flat looking. The cab and fenders are very similar to the 87 body style. The interior became more rounded and the power train options changed to include the 7.3l deisel. I'm not too sure about any changes in the power train. I think the E40D tranny was the sole auto and the manual added a 5 speed OD between 87 and 97. I think they all have the New Process transfer case and the Ford 12" rear. In 98 all things changed and the trucks can't even be compared...
