Question e4od or 4r70w

how can i tell the diffrence between a e4od or 4r70w in my 1995 f-150 4x4 5.8l

Look in the drivers door ID tag and see what the transmission code is. Look in you owners manual and it should tell you which transmission this code identifies. I would think it would be the E4OD as this was a heavier duty transmission and you have the 5.8L. I think the 4R70w was mainly used with the 302 v8 and the 300 6 cylinder.

The easiest way to tell is that the 4R70W was never mated to the 5.8L. If it is an automatic with overdrive it has to be an E4OD.
