Went and checked the window for factory tint and sure enough...
Tint scale%
Interesting, I never looked at mine. Most factory tinted glass is right around 20%. The 25(actual 28%) tint on my front glass is noticeable lighter than the factory rears.
Those of you with the windshield brow tinted, how does it look? Mine has those shade dots on it, and I've always heard they're near impossible to get looking good.
You cannot see the dots from outside. Looks like a black shade all across. From inside here is what it looks like. Of course it is raining today.
I don’t know if it’s the same for every State but here in GA, trucks like the F150 and SD’s can have the windows of the back doors and the back window as dark as one would like but the front doors are limited to a maximum of 30-35 percent.
No dark tint at all on the entire windshield but a 4-6 inch brow is allowed.
With that being said and just like owners in most if not all States, many owners here disregard many of the tint laws pertaining to the front doors and windshield and I definitely fall into the latter.
I will likely be going 20% on the fronts to match the rest. I don't want the rears any darker than they are. Is there a benefit to clear tinting the windshield and rear windows for added UV protection? I used to have progressive lenses (eyeglasses) until I found them to be useless inside the car (they didn't get dark). I assumed it was because there were UV blockers in the glass already. Is that not accurate? Is it easier to clean the bare window or the tint?
As a side note, MI laws on tint are stupid. The fronts are allowed absolutely no tint, other than the top 4" of the windows. It seems the State Police made it a point to pull over window tint abusers 15-20 years ago, but not much since (unless I have just been lucky). Most just ignore the state law.

Outside of the UV protection, one of the main advantages of clear tinting the entire front windshield is heat rejection.
Not all clear tints are created equal so keep that in mind.
