My truck goes in tomorrow to get the windows tinted. How dark should I go on the front windows?? I will do the backs at 20% but not sure if that is too dark when driving at night for the front windows. Also, I know some guys get "clear" tint on their windsheilds, have you had success with this? If so, what percent/product did you use?
I like 5% on the sides but really too dark at night. 20% gives you the best of both worlds. 35% IMOP just isn't enough but if you have a hard time seeing at night maybe that would be better. If not I would go with the 20. The clear (50%) on the entire front windshield is NICE!! We have put it on every single vehicle for the past 6 years and it works great! Does not hinder sight out at all but blocks the UV coming in. Cars are all so much cooler in the summer months after sitting in the sun.
I just did 20% Ceramic on the driver and passenger sides. I might go back and do 78% ceramic on the moon roof, windshield and rears.
Maybe it hasn't totally cured (5 days old) but mine looks a little cloudy from inside the truck while in direct sunlight - maybe that's a ceramic thing. But the 20 is the near perfect match to factory.
I agree with others that have recommended 20%. I have 15% on the sides of my other vehicle and that is about right for me. Anything darker and you have a hard time seeing out at night. (Although, if you have the 360 camera, maybe that won't be an issue for you. )
As for the windshield, I have always been too chicken to have it done because I like for my windshield to be crystal clear, not as if I am looking through sunglasses all the time. But, with that said, I have also not seen what it looks like, and it may truly be transparent.
I plan on doing 15% (or 20%) on the sides, and leaving my windshield clear.

I was worried more about the tint being too dark to use my mirrors at night. I no longer care about backing as the 360 view on the cameras does deal with that well. As for the windshield, I am exactly like you. Unless you can show me it is 100% clear, and I could never tell the difference, I do not want it.

Andy how much did it cost you for your tinting, if I can ask?

Use the clear tint on the front windshield and you can't tell it's ever there from looking out but will keep it cooler inside the truck. i will snap a few photos later of the clear on the windshield. Looking into the vehicle straight through the glass is clear but as windshields are tilted back looking at it from the front puts a slight mirror effect and you can't see IN as well but seeing out you will never notice it's even there.

I did it at Zeibart (so I know I paid a little more) but I think I was at $130'ish out the door for the 2 windows.
They quoted me $150 to do the roof and another $150 to do the rear and back glass. $130 was enough damage for me, I haven't noticed the heat issue with the roof shade closed yet but will go ahead and go for it if it becomes a problem.
I've never had tint, how careful do you need to be in cleaning it and what is the cost, if I may ask?
Cleaning is easy, just don't use ammonia based products. Cost can range from $150 to $800 depending on what you get tinted, how dark you go, quality of the tint and the maker of the tint. Tint is like everything else, you get what you pay for...usually.
You guys are lucky. Here is the law in the Bayou State:
LRS 32.361.1 states that the legal limits of the sun screening device (window tint) on a passenger car are light transmissions of 40% for the front side windows, 25% for the rear side windows and 12% for the rear windshield.
Allowing 40% light transmission is like no tint at all.

With the 15% on the front of my Trailblazer, I have no problem seeing out of the side mirrors. 20% will be even easier still. It certainly makes it darker, but not so much to be an issue. Anything darker than 15% required me to roll the windows down to see out of the side mirrors. (When I had 5% on my Camaro)

Thanks for the information Jace2016...I will have to look into it. I love the reduction in heat from just the side windows being tinted, so having the front would probably make a big difference considering it is the largest window in the vehicle.
In California no tint is allowed on the drivers and passenger windows, even though people do it. You can get ticketed for it. The was another thread on here about not doing the windshield with the clear as it can create problems at night.
