If I remember correctly, the back glass is 17% tint. It's printed right on them.
My eyes are fairly sensitive to light, so I tinted my front windows and top of my windshield 20% and I would not want to go any darker than that. They are plenty dark at night, I certainly would not want it to be any darker. I had 50% on the front side windows of another truck and it was almost like no tint at all. 35% is a decent in between but is still a little lighter than I like.
I've never had my whole windshield tinted, but adding the "brow" up top really darkens up the whole interior so it is quite possible that is part of the issue for RTaylor.
Thanks for all the thoughtful responses. I think I'm going to go to see if they are willing to help out with the windshield....if so, I'm going to 75% on the front, and 35% on the sides. Other option is to just go to 50% on the side windows. Either way, I'll get the heat rejection properties which I love with some better vis I hope! I'll try and post a pic of the front windshield with 50%....it's amazing how dark 50% looks in the photos given how light it looks on side windows.
AFAIK, in Texas, all you can tint LEGALLY on the windshield is the top 5 inches.
lol….i dont think its legal most states…i followed the tint shop recommendation after telling him the kind of driving i do, so at least he’s going to make it right.
Following. I want to get the IR tint too but not sure how dark to go. I want some tinting to make it harder for people to see in but not so dark to hurt visibility out.
My tint guy did 15% on front two windows, 50% 2 rear windows, and 35% on back glass. It all blends really nice. One thing to consider, the bigger the window, the lighter it looks with tint. My wife has 20% on her cars side windows and they look darker than mine at 15%.
Ya'll may laugh but I haven't had a vehicle tinted in years until this truck. I got 3M ceramic IR and overall the daytime driving and heat prevention is AWESOME.....problem is I do a lot of night driving and all weather driving as well. I let the guy at the shop talk me in to going 20% over all side and back glass and 50% on windshield....it's way too dark to me when I look out the side windows. I have not been bothered by the 50% on the windshield, but my SIDE VIEW mirrors are tough for me to see anything in at night....very concerning with the trailer.
Good news is the guy at the shop wants to make it right, and has offered to take care of it, but I'm not sure whether to go 35% or 50% on the sides. IMO this Ceramic IR tint seems to run darker than the tint I used in a previous life (3M Obsidian).
I trailer and drive 30,000 miles a year on a lot of back/dark roads, and I don't want to have an accident / hurt anyone. Some have suggested the windshield is my actual problem although I feel like I'm seeing fine out of that.....thoughts, help, jokes? Want to make sure I'm getting this squared away properly this time as I'm getting a free shot at fixing my own mistake. Obviously, taking it off is an option, but I would like to keep some of the heat prevention as it works awesome.
When I got the truck I told them to put the darkest they legally could on. Now I cant see out the back at night. It's really nice in the summer though!
I know the front is 25% not sure on the rear.
My front side windows are tinted to match the rear factory tint ..... I think it is about 20%. I usually roll the windows down to see better backing a trailer up at night. The 35% tint I had on my last truck didn't look nearly as good nor did it limit night time visibility.
I went with what is the legal limits. 35% on front side windows and a 5% shade on the top of windshield to the legal mark. I left the rear alone. Used ceramic tint and it does the job.
I have been pulled over in the past. I was legal and made “Barney” use his meter to read the tint. Seems some power hungry cops just out of the academy have to find something when they can’t. Enough of my rant.
I do a good bit of night driving, I have 50 front, 35 side/rear. I usually roll down the window to back the trailer up and I have to take extra care when changing lanes at night but it's not bad by any means. 20 would be far too dark for me personally but 50 would be too light. I think 35 is a good mix between looks, privacy, and night driving.
Those of you with the windshield brow tinted, how does it look? Mine has those shade dots on it, and I've always heard they're near impossible to get looking good.
I have my front tinted and the little dots are sealed well under the tint. For those not tinting the factory glass, Ford tint is colored glass (privacy tint) and offers very little protection from UV rays. If you are concerned about keeping the interior nice in areas with high sun exposure, add some ceramic tint over the factory glass.
