Fuel pressure question

I’ve had a gauge for 80k miles now and was ok with what I was seeing, max 70 and min 40 on a hard long pull. Idles was 60ish and cruising in to 50-55 range depending on weight and ambient temp.

It’s been that way for years. A week ago I blew one of the return lines (what a mess). I replaced both of them and now all my numbers are 8-10 psi higher which I certainly didn’t expect because it tells me my lines were bulging/flexing for way too long. I did the bb mod years ago and maybe I should have done return lines first, it just never occurred to me.

Reading here tells me 50-80 is an acceptable range so I should be ok but I wonder if there is an optimal goal and what the impact of exceeding 80 psi might be? I could be pushing that downhill in the mountains, won’t know til I get there.

I know e-fuel is considered the ideal but that’ll have to wait for some downtime along with all the other shoulda coulda wouldas.

Too much fuel pressure will only put extra stress to the seals and lines. No benewits from over pressurizing.

Thumbs up

Mine idles in the upper 60s with Efuel. Seems tine to me!

I blew one of those lines too about four or five years ago. I tell everyone to install new if not documented. Riffraff now makes HD lines, I have Motorcrap as the RR units were not available at the time. Those are like that PS high side hose to me. 10 years of daily use? Spend the $120 and replace those three lines.

80s too much IMO. 60 is generally the sweet spot 70 is okay probably not hurting anything but no higher than that I’d say

I may have spoke too soon and assumed that because my idle and cruise pressure is up 10 points that my high and low would be as well. That’s doesn’t appear to be true so far.

I was able to push it pretty hard for an extended time getting on the interstate with the camper on today and saw 43 as the low and so far 72 was the highest I’ve seen at higher rpm foot off the throttle.

I ended up getting my lines made at a local hydraulic shop. Bio friendly 250 psi lines for $60.

thanks for the advice, I feel comfortable with these numbers for the time being.

Bob

Does installing Mark's e-fuel kit provide fuel pressure, or is fuel pressure sensor+gauge a separate project? E-fuel on my list. Just curious.

Mark does not provide you with a gauge. It has a tap in the top of the fuel block for the schrader valve when you get a gauge that’s where it goes. Glow shift gets a bit of hate but I like them on my truck and they were very affordable

Thanks. Would you mind clarifying what "it" is in the above?

“It” the fuel block/regulator that comes in the kit and goes where your fuel bowl is now. Which has threads in the top of it for a gauge sensor

Not to derail, but why do the glowshift gauges get a bad rap?

I honestly don’t know. They’re half the price as most and a third if isspro yes but I never had any issues with them and they seemed to work perfectly. I guess people think they’re just cheaply made. I thought they were pretty good
