2 weeks ago, for the first time since I purchased my truck 12 years ago.........it wouldn't start ! Gpr gave its all and then some. It was the oem from 1998! I have a buddy with 2 obs psd's.. 6 years ago he ordered a couple "better" ones from diesel o rings. I asked that he order a 2nd for myself just for a spare. Well thats what I put on 2 weeks ago. Have to lay it on its side, diagonally and then it bolts right in. Very simple and straight forward. Probably, physically double the size of oem. When it went out, it started to melt the plastic body around the 1 stud. Melted the rubber boot too. I had a couple boots like that in the tool box to add one to each stud.
was wondering about glow plug as well the other week.. I usually turn key on and wait for the glow plug light to go out before cranking.. Couple times a week or so ago when it was a bit cooler,, 55 degs or so,, i was in hurry and forgot the cycle adn notice at start up, it took a second or so longer and i noticed some whitish looking smoke at start.
SO i have been diligent about making sure to hold off cranking till light out and the puff of smoke at start is back to black and crank is like 1-2 seconds...
My question:: when the GPR or glow plugs start to fail the crank will get longer 3-5 seconds and the puff of smoke be white vs black?.. does that sound like a good way to keep eye on that? currently miles is around 268K and far as i know the original glowplug and gp relay.
last year at my workamping job up here near fargo ND, where we are now, the ladder part of oct got cold and snow.. I would turn key wait ti light out and then count one thousand one one thousand-2 then turn key to start and it fired right up.. have not been in really cold yet.. but the month is YOUNG..
