I just installed an IC - I have a bar to mount the transmission cooler across the front of the IC in between the frame rails. The lines aren't quite long enough to reach - my question is can I use a coupler and a small piece of hose to extend it? Or do I need to follow it back to where it started and run a full piece of hose?
Basically - Transmission cooler needs moved, extend lines with scab together, or do full single piece?
Either way will work, but the more splices you have the more areas a connection can fail/leak. Also a splice will cause a minor restriction in the line
I would just get longer hoses. Chances are yours are original and should be replaced anyway. I think I picked up some derale 3/8's stuff for 25 bucks on summit for a 40ft roll or something obnoxious.
I took the hoses loose and found out the 1 that needed to be lengthened was routed from the other side anyway - I just took it loose from the cooler, rerouted it and voila - problem solved.
I believe the cooler is a true cool - I had it put in when I had the transmission rebuilt.
edit: omg - I put cables instead of hoses originally, facepalm
I have to tie up the hoses yet, but she's coming along... Almost got her back together
I think I'm going to take the stabilizer bar back down and paint the blocks before I finish up - not sure why I didn't think of that before as I treated as much rust as possible during this
If I hang it higher, it hides behind the bumper and doesn't receive much air flow - or I mount it as it is and get air flow, it doesn't hang lower than the radiator support and I believe this is the way the bracket/mount was designed but the unit it supported in the picture was much narrower lol
