I have a 2006 F-250 with 185k. It’s at the shop in the process of getting head gaskets done. Once the heads were taken off the mechanic noticed that most of the cylinders have glazing/shiny at the top 1-2 inches.
Is this something I need to worry about? They are recommending putting a new motor in.

When a motor is first built,,, thye use a hone to "break the glaze" to hold oil until the piston rings seat and create this "glaze". Unless the motor was using oil or the heads show some cylinders are using old, I would not worry about it if you are not re-ringing the motor.
Thanks! I’ve only had the truck a month, it it was not burning oil at all. The mechanic feels it is from excessive idling or from the blown head gasket putting coolant into the cylinder.

Tell them to replace the head gasket, button it back up. Never go back to that shop. I mostly work on heavy equipment so I'm no Ford expert but IMO if this was really an issue I would start with new sleeves, pistons, rings... You don't need a whole new engine.
Too bad these shops don't have websites where you can review their work, then others could check first before trusting these people to work on their vehicles. Maybe someone could create a website like Angie's list.
