Where's the best place to get a new cylinder head? One of my lifters is making alot of noise on my ranger. I'm going to place the whole cylinder head because it will be cheaper than buying individual parts. Thanks for the help.
I got a cylinder head from Welcome to Ideal Cylinder Head for my 99' 4.0L OHV motor. There was a 2 week delay in getting it to me due to some supply issue but once I received it, it worked well. I think the heads w/ valves set me back about $200. It fit just fine and the motor has about 2,000 miles on it after the head swap and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country.
As a side note it did NOT come with lifters. Those along with pushrods must be purchased separately. You can probably find a slightly set for a relatively cheap price on ebay.
Well do you want used or rebuilt or new. Used check the local salvage yards. Rebuilt talk to the auto parts stores but beware there are some really poor quality rebuilt parts out there. New there is high dollar Ford and few after market makers. If this is one of the push rod Ford V6s they had some issues with cracked heads so look out for that.

Good call out! Avoid any used heads from 4.0 OHV's or Ford 2.9's both of these were very prone to cracked heads.

I see by reading some of your other posts that you have/had a 01 2.3L Ranger, so are we talking about it?????
If so, that engine is a OHC, not a pushrod design, so "lifters" aren't the source of your noise probem!!!!
