Just picked up my Scab FX4 today. I want to get my Kenwood system that I pulled out of my old truck installed as soon as possible. Has anyone pulled the dash and door panels yet?.
Any do's or don'ts?......
I hoped it'd be so simple. I've been measuring for a while & I've come to the conclusion that there's very little room anywhere in this truck for sub's, amps, Sirius receiver, etc...
Kind of aggravating.....
Just in case anybody's interested.........
I've decided to sacrifice the passenger side backseat and build a .8 cu. ft. enclosure for the 10" Kenwood I already have. Gonna mount the amp in the center under backseat. There is NO room at all behind the rear seat. I'm gonna build a downfiring enclosure as well to go under the driver side backseat for an 8" sub just to see how it works......Looks like there's room underneath the stereo for the Sirius receiver. I'm gonna install my stereo, Sirius receiver, and install the sub & enclosure sometime next week. I'll mess with the door speakers later.
I have an 05 crew cab. I kept the factory head unit with an adapter to go from speaker wire to RCA cables. You can get speaker boxes to go under the back seat for single or dual 8 in subs or single or dual 10 in subs. I have 2 10 in subs under the back seat and there's enough room behind the back seat I put my amp and a 1 farad capacitor. I did have to trim the insulation behind the back seat but i cant tell any noise difference with the radio off. The speaker box works with crew cab or Xtra cab trucks. The dash was fairly simple to pull out. The radio/Hvac control cover panel comes off with a couple of screws and the radio comes out with lots of room behind it. The door panels are fairly straight forward and come off just like any other truck. Good luck
