95 F250HD towing question

Hey guys, I have a reg cab 95 F250HD with 4.10s and the HD tranny M5OD-HD (z-f) tranny, 4.9L straight 6. I’m starting a little tree business and want to buy a 7x12 dump trailer. Can I pull around 7k with this truck? The trailer weighs around 2300lbs but I will more than likely be loading between 2-5klbs loads of wood or branches, so 7k will probably be the max weight I could reach. I want to know what I can safely max with this truck, I live in the flats of NJ and will be pulling it a max of 30 miles to the dump.

Suggest you read the towing or trailer sections of owners manual. There should be a lot of pages of information.

So long as the truck is in great shape, you have good trailer brakes, and have no plans to exceed 55mph (because you probably won't be able to) you'll be okay. Those 4.9 inline 6 motors are tough and they don't make enough power to hurt anything or get you into trouble. If the business takes off you can find something with more giddy-yap.

I didn't think the mazda tranny made it into F250's though.

Good idea to read your owner manual on towing, as already suggested.

Cool thanks. I did find the manual. 10k towing capacity, 5400 lbs is the max it says I should pull. I wish it were more. Maybe it’s not a Mazda tranny, It says Z-F for the tranny. Don’t know much about these things yet. Does anyone have any towing stories they could share with this truck?

I thought they used M5OD for both manual transmissions at the time. The light duty one would be the actual Mazda based 5 speed, and the heavy duty option would be a ZF-42 or ZF-47 depending on the year. Both are Manual 5 speeds with Over Drive and marked as M5OD.
