I have a 95 F250 7.3L Automatic. I am starting to get a type of rocking when I stop at red lights or stop signs. When i press the pedal to take off it feels like the transmission is having a hard time shifting in and out of idle while in drive. I have tried shifting through the other gears manually but it does the same thing. The only response I got on facebook forums was basically it is screwed and I'm going to need to rebuid. Is that it? I've checked my fluid and it looks good. Is there anything else to check? The Transmission is a rebuild that was installed in 2017 and has less than 40,000 light duty miles on it. Thanks for the help.
I'm not sure what you mean by the transmission shifting in and out of idle. The transmission doesn't shift in or out of idle. Can you explain this further?
If you checked the trans fluid without the engine running you could be anywhere from a quart or two overfilled to two or three quarts underfilled. You're somewhere in there. Check it again with the engine running to find out where the level really is.
Did I mention that it doesn't happen right away. First thing in the morning I don't notice it until I get about 15 miles but that's my first red light. In the hot afternoons I notice it starts doing it about 3 red lights in about 1 1/2 miles. But not right away.
I brought it to the local ford to have diagnostics ran on the transmission. They have a backlog for their transmission guy but they had someone take it on a drive and they just told me that they think the "pump" is going out and would need a tranny rebuild. Does this sound right or should I get a second opinion? Also a well known local shop said they could sale me a rebuilt one that has been tweeked to handle some heavy pulling, and quoted me $2600 parts and labor with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. Is this a good price?
I do not know anything about the mechanics of a transmission so your guys advice is what I'm going off of. Thanks for your help.
Also, if there is anyone in the east Tennessee area with a truck for sale, I am looking.
This morning the truck would barely move taking off from a redlight after driving 25 miles. I ended up having to drive a mile to work in reverse. Looks like I'm going to have to get it repaired sooner than later.
