Any Ford dealership. It's been a while since I bought one but they weren't overly expensive. Best to call and get a price.
Rebuilding is easy assuming the armature, housing, and nose cone are not damaged. It's a case of disassembling the starter and replacing small wear items most of the time. Brushes, starter drive, & bushings. A rebuilding shop that specializes in rebuilding starters & alternators will do a better job, meaning that if any other parts need replacing they will do that as well.
Your showing your age here brother It's been awhile since those days in my area but if the op has an original starter for his application that is definitely the way to go. The problem is folks have bought into the "Life time warranty" BS and drove many of the small starter & alternator rebuild shops out of business.
I had to "adjust" my new starter because they gave me the wrong starter for my transmission. I even ask for a starter at the parts house that SHOULD HAVE fit my situation. BUT... the chinese folk that rebuild these starters just put parts together and that is about it...... (At least the gears was correct)
SO THAT MAY BE WHY....... they sell starter shims.... that goes between the starter and the bell housing so you can space the starter gear FAR ENOUGH BACK so it doesn't continually engage the fly wheel. (As it did in my case)
I don't care what you ask for when it comes to REMANUFACTURED parts..... you just might not get what you are expecting.
That was my situation....
Maybe my experience will help you figure your out.

LOL! I guess I am dating myself. There are at least 3 shops that repair alternators & starters in my area (And still 3 actual radiator repair shops that do re-cores!). I suspect that they eventually will close their doors for good one day. One thing I notice with starters is they don't seem to fix many car/truck starters anymore because the chain stores have taken that part of this business in my area as well--we have no one to blame for that because everybody wants inexpensive parts and we want them today from a place that is close to home.....usually chain stores. The electrical shops that are still open in my area do a lot of heavy equipment starters which are expensive so I suspect that's where the shops might be getting their work. Cheers!
Are you 100 % sure you are getting a starter for the transmission you have? You do know there is a difference in a manual and automatic trans starter. Also I believe there is possibly a different tooth count on the starter/versus (flywheel?) I am quoting, so not sure. Do you have a 302, 351M, 400, 460? Auto or manual trans? ... etc ...
As I recall the difference in AT vs MT starters is present with the 351W.
