Good evening,
I am having starter troubles. I turn the key and the starter spins, but does not engage with the flywheel. (3 speed). I tap on the starter and nothing happens, tap with a hammer. I have had to bump start it just to move around the driveway.
I went through the usual and checked the cables, good. Removed dust cover and all flywheel teeth appeared good. I could not get a good sight on the starter cog. I went through three spare solenoids just to eliminate that issue and not a difference made. Anything else I should check before I go through the hassle of removing the passenger header to remove the starter? Thanks
Sounds like the bendix has failed, unfortunately the starter has to come out. You might want to consider replacing it with a later gear reduction starter. They are a bit smaller than the original style starter. What engine do you have?
