tech folder doc

I don't recall seeing anything specific to this topic written before, and if so, it's not in the Tech folder that I noticed. Would be useful, but I'm not the one to write it.

Why, How, and What to Know About Monitoring LIve Data

Or something to that effect. How many times do we tell people that they need to monitor data? Over and over we explain. But even better, a tutorial on why you need to monitor, how to get hooked up/different options, which PIDS to monitor and why, and what to be on the lookout for, and what it means when you see certain data. It should note the importance of fuel pressure monitoring as well.

Wish I could do it.

I gave it a shot awhile back. It ended up reading kinda like an advertisement for certain products. That wasn’t what I was going for and the info was a bit spotty also.

Yes, you did. Great job. It is mostly about the products, and those change so it's kinda hard to keep updated. I thought of that when I wrote the first post. I didn't see much of the other parts. I forget who put the chart together with all the sensor values, but maybe that one this put together with a little bit of why you want it (lame factory gauges, etc.) and how to interpret it. And add it to the Tech Folder, Mods!

This is my first diesel truck. Wish I would have bought one a long time ago. I pull a 30 foot race trailer (Frequently 1500 to 1600 miles) and with the gas truck I was only getting about 4 mpg. I am not familiar with all the acronyms for what I should monitor, so if anyone could post them it would be greatly appreciated.

LOL, that'll teach you, jarhead. Now you need an algorithm to search all those acronyms. I thought there was some variance between data monitoring devices as well - maybe what Scangauge uses is different than TorquePro, etc.? Or, maybe how they display anyway? But I'm prolly wrong. What device are you using, marine?

I have the SCT4 tuner but use torque pro to do my monitoring with because I can see more displays

OK, I use TP too. Important - if you haven't already, you need to go into Settings and download the Ford-specific PIDS. You'll then see them in the Add a Gauge list. When I got my first diesel, I only had a ScanGauge, and you had to choose which 4 PIDs to monitor because that's all the display you got. But with TP, you can have a lot of gauges. I set up a profile for my trucks and one for my car. I keep EOT, ECT, FICM main, FICM power (rather than battery voltage), fan speed, transmission temp, IPR, VGT and boost on my screens.

BTW, before Mark tells you, :-), it's real important to monitor fuel pressure as well, but that requires a mechanical gauge and fittings to connect to the fuel regulator. As your pump starts to fail, pressure can drop, but the truck still run, and burn up your injectors. If your passenger rear injectors go out, it's prolly pump related and others will go out soon too if you don't fix it.
