1967 F100 Flatbed
Made each one and then welded it in taking my time to make sure they fit nicely before welding.
So now the last spot on the cab is the rear passenger side inside corner patch. I'll have to do the same thing as the drivers side and try to make a outside panel fit but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Nice work on the patches. Have you thought about maybe adding a clean out hole so you can eliminate the rust in that area? What mig welder are you using?
yeah I've been thinking about drilling drain holes on each side and will probably do so just haven't gotten that far yet
My new welder is a Eastwood MP140i Multi-process welder that can Mig, Tig, and Stick weld. I'm happy with it so far.
I also started prepping the drivers side for the cab support replacement. drilled out all the spot welds and removed the old mount. Then I cleaned up the sheet metal and sprayed it with weld through primer. I marked where it's supposed to sit so I can line it up when the new ones show up.
Looking really good. Keep at it.
Metal work looks great!
Thanks!
With the cab laying on it's back it makes it a bit easier to work on the roof as well. There are enough dings and a dent that are causing a lot of "oil canning" of the roof sheet metal so I sanded down most of the roof and started marking them all.
Got my pin welder out and started tacking them all with pins and then slide hammered them out.
It's hard to get this to show up in the pictures but it really helped tighten up the roof and stopped all of the bad "oil canning". So one more step done.
I decided it was time to start the flatbed modifications and I'm not a fan of the big square bed so I'm going to give it a little shape and hopefully help the way it looks. I started by cutting off the corner up by the cab and then welding a new sloped back plate in it's place.
Simple modification but just the start for the flatbed, I have a number of things I'm planning for it so this should be fun.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Cut them free and used them as patterns for the passenger side.
cut the post at a 45 degrees and welded a top cap on it
lined up all the parts and welded them together but not to the bed so I could still flip it over and easily weld everything and then grind all the welds smooth.
With everything lining up, I went ahead and welded it to the bed.
Made a pattern for the space behind the cab and started boxing it in.
So that is my start to the headache rack. I'll jump over to the passenger side and build the same over on that side and then put in cross bars to tie it all together.
Now I can start building the passenger side of the headache rack.
I'm really happy with the corners knocked off and the angle going to the cab. With this wide of a bed it defiantly helps it look better and fit the truck.
