I have small hole about a half of an inch between the floor board and driver side wall. I sanded off the rust and used some “rust kutter” on it. Should I patch with metal filler or cut it out and patch with some type of auto metal.
IMO. cut it out a little bit bigger than the hole is and weld in some new metal. That's the really the right way to get rid of rust. Also Don't use any "metal" from lmc.
I agree with Lilorbi about staying away from LMC metal. I believe it's 20 gauge sheet and super thin. Dennis Carpenter or National Parts depot are much better places to look for sheet steel for these trucks.
As far as the small area, I'd cut it out and weld in some new steel. I'm having to replace the bottom part of the kick panel on both sides of my truck along with parts of the floor pan. Not too difficult if you take your time.

i did mine hillbilly style: i painted all rust with por 15 which was pretty minimal on the floors and none on corners. i had the farm bumper on it which was made with 1/8 steel diamond plate and i cut the ends off which i then used pieces from this to patch the holes in the floor, the cab gas tank hole, the new in bed gas filler hole and gonna use it to build the battery box under the hood cuz its crusty there too. i sealed it together using silicon and steel rivets then painted with por 15. it will probably out last me i used this little bumper to tie the frame together at the end and to give a little protection to the new fuel tank or so my wife can put fuel in its not fancy like a lot of guys on here but neither am i measure once cut twice! i am gonna have an old aluminum shell on the bed so this will be protected from the elements
