rust hole fix

rust hole fix

whats the best way to fix a tiny hole in the floorboard? its only bout the size of a dime and i dont have a welder. if i cleaned it up real good could i just cut a small patch and glue it down with that metal adhesive stuff like some body shops use?

Grind down the metal to bare metal and see exactly how thin the surrounding metal is. Most cases, the metal is really thin around a rust hole and you'll need to cut more out. What I'd do is cut out all the rust you need to so it doesn't spread. Cut out a patch about 1/2 to 3/4 inch or so beyond the cut out and paint all the metal and then use either rivets or self tapping sheet metal screws and put your patch down. If you use screws, you can always grind them down a bit underneath to clean them up a bit. Get some seam sealer from your local parts store and coat the seams underneath and inside. That will keep moisture out and keep it from rusting. People do this all the time and patches hold up pretty well. Overlapping seams are killer for rust because they trap moisture, but if you seal them up than the patch will hold for a long time.
