Rust?

I have a 1973 Ford F-250 2WD that I am thinking of restoring, but it has quite a bit of rust on it. It has been stored outside (no garage), and driven in the winter, so it has run into some salt, and has quite a bit of rust here and there. Also, the bottom of the bed is rusted through in spots (some very large holes).

So my question is, how do I correct this? For some spots, I will have to buy replacement pannels (I'm going to order from an auto-wholesale place) but what about places where it is not totally rusted through, or only a small rust hole? After repairing the rust spots, I plan to give it a new coat of paint, which should help a lot in rust prevention for the future.

Thanks for the help,

~Joe

Rust?

Well if the holes are real small, smaller than the diameter of a pen you could weld them. Or if they are bigger, put a piece of wood behind the hole and braze/solder the hole, the wood makes a baking to hold teh braze/solder in place, or braze/solder a small piece of sheet metal in. that what I would do. Hope this helps.

Rust?

For fixing rust spots get some tools like a grinder, MIG welder (much easer than brazing and no sodering), cutting tools, safety gear, and a techness shot (spelling). If you can, get it sandblasted and primed then start fixing stuff.

get a book about restoreing cars
a few Pin holes, just weld them
a small rust hole or two, patch panel
a few or more small holes or a big one, replace the hole panel
the less bondo the better
take your time and do it right
take pictures
and be proud of the work that you've done
