Thanks for taking the time to explain that. I highly doubt they are gonna get a lot of subscribers to their nav service.
I think it's all part of the internet service, so if you subscribe to that, you get the nav service.
But, if you use it heavily, you will probably suck up the 10 gigs of service every month.
I like using the turn by turn directions in the instrument cluster (8" productivity screen between the gauges) with the OEM navigation. Does google maps allow turn by turn directions in the instrument cluster as well?
Haven't heard if that will be yet, guess I'll find out one of these days...
straight from the order guide, a lariat will have the 12" screen and navigation what i cant figure out is the difference between connected, and built in connected. lariats will get connected, platinums, king ranch, limited will get built in connected.
my understanding from the 150 and bronco folks is:
connected = uses the built in cell modem. You have to pay for a subscription.
built in connected = same as above but Ford includes a three or four year subscription with the truck.
in both cases the maps might actually be downloaded to the vehicle. But the truck talks to Ford before you can actually do anything.
So while all Lariats with Sync4 have NAV, I think you have to pay to use it. I also don’t know how much the subscriptions cost.
there are apps like TomTom that you can download the maps on your phone so a cell service isn’t needed. They are also subscription based. Another option is google maps. You can download maps in a small area if you know there won’t be signal.
edit: the NAV subscription is separate from the hotspot feature. The data used by the truck is free to you. Same *** the FordPass app stuff.
On Google maps as long as you have signal when you start your route it will keep up even after you loose signal. That is what I do now out in BFE west Texas, get my map going in town then when I get out where there is no signal it still works. Just can't load a new route till you get signal again.
