I realize this question is probably way premature, but I wonder if adding NAV to a '22 with Sync 4 (after taking delivery), will be similar to upgrading the Sync 3 system, (adding a NAV module, and maybe some ForScan magic)?
I kinda wished I'd checked the NAV box when I ordered my '22 Lariat (*******!) But there's NO WAY I'm changing my order now! 😆
One would hope it's similar but most Lariats get Navigation. It's pretty hard not to unless you just order base or value package. If you don't have a Vin you can change your order easily.
With sinc 4 and the wireless applecarplay and android auto. I see no need for navigation. Your going to have “live” google maps or apple maps on your screen. The ford navigation has to be updated. Granted my understanding is the navigation will auto update but it won’t be live, showing real time wrecks, speed traps, etc like google maps does. Am I missing something?

I already have a VIN and a build day. I just ordered the Lariat with Value pack

I read a pretty good write up on the new Sync 4 system. It said they partnered with Garmin in the design phase, and the NAV feature set seems fairly improved over previous versions.... I'll just wait and see.

well that’s good, because the old navigation is awful. In fact I never even use it, I just use google maps on my phone. Having wireless android auto and the ability to have google maps on my screen is one of the main reasons I’m getting a 2022.
straight from the order guide, a lariat will have the 12" screen and navigation what i cant figure out is the difference between connected, and built in connected. lariats will get connected, platinums, king ranch, limited will get built in connected.

I agree with you. I'll initially use Android Auto. It's the embedded GPS in the NAV option that caught my attention (for those times the phone has no coverage)

Hmmmmmmm 🤔
Maybe the "Connected" and "Built-in Connected" are referring to Sync 4, and Sync 4A..... I've seen that, but don't know what it means...

There is no "NAV" box to check for ordering a Lariat.
Sync4 on the Lariat has "Connected Navigation", this is a subscription based navigation, there is no embedded navigation in the radio.
You pay the subscription fee, request a map routing for wherever you want to go, then it is downloaded to the sync4 screen, but it only works when your radio has a good internet connection.
Sync4 on higher trim levels comes with embedded NAV in addition to the Connected Nav service, so that navigation will work even offline.
Can the embedded nav be added to the Lariat? I would guess it will be possible, and I am betting it won't be a module, but a software upgrade.
I plan to use the wireless android auto connection, and am going to use the SYGIC nav app for better routing control than google maps or waze offers.

I like using the turn by turn directions in the instrument cluster (8" productivity screen between the gauges) with the OEM navigation. Does google maps allow turn by turn directions in the instrument cluster as well?

Thanks for taking the time to explain that. I highly doubt they are gonna get a lot of subscribers to their nav service.
