So my truck is an 84 f150 long bed single cab. Cab is a 89 wired and dashed as a 96 2x4. Engine is an 01 explorer wired as a 96 f150 5.0. Trans is an E40d from a 97 f250 with a bw1356 from who knows what
trucks running and firing right up. I need to fab up a shift linkage as the one I have is too short. I took the truck for a maiden voyage down the driveway with nothing but manifolds. Man does it sound good.
trucks in 4lo and didn’t want to shift. I’ll work on that after I figure out the indicator lights.
im not sure where to start. Obviously the trans harness is plugged in and the transfer case is a manual shift and it’s also plugged in
i think I need help from someone that went from an electronic shift to a manual shift. Maybe??
With a 4wd powertrain you will need a 4wd version of the PCM to get correct transmission operation, and of course the PCM and wiring must be for the 5.0/E4OD combo not the 5.0/4R70w.
Ok, you have the right electrical then. The PCM gets a signal from the t-case to tell it when 4-low is selected, it adjusts shift points based on that and vehicle speed. If the low range switch isn't connected the PCM thinks it's in hi range where the shifts normally happen at a much higher road speed. Of course the vehicle speed sensor on the rear axle much be connected too, you're not using a 9" axle are your?
The manual t-case shift linkages are notorious for seizing up and they are made from relatively fragile pot metal, so I suggest you remove it from the trans and soak it for disassembly. If you break it the only place to get another is in the junkyard.
I actually already replaced it. My cab wasn’t a manual but had the pre cut out section so I just stuck one of those dorman China pot metal replacements in there I just ordered my self a new voltmeter. No idea who has mine but I went to check the wires down at the transfer case and off course that’s when I realized I no longer own one. Lol
in full honesty. I was a du mb a ss. The transfer case was in 4lo. Lol. So I have it in what I believe is 4 hi or 2hi and it does shift fine. However it is not indicating any kind of gear change. So I’ll wait until my meter comes so I can see what’s going oat the transfer case plug. Maybe it’s just a bad switch
The dash bezel may have the 4x4, but from a 2x4, there won't be a bulb, and possibly no circuits either.
You may investigate if the 2x4 dash has 4x4 dash functionality in the wiring.

well I got it fixed. The dash bezel is from an inline 300 96 with 5spd so I have the tach. It was a 2x4. I’m not sure if it came with bulb as I just replaced the all the bulbs before I put it in
the problem was that little pig tail that connects the transfer case to the chassis. the chassis side has some Schmutz in it. Cleaned it up and squeezed all the female pins. Greased her up and I know can tell what mode I’m in and everything shifts perfect!!!
no to figure out how to make an exhuast to fit the gt40p manifolds. 🥴
