I believe the Oil Geek's position is not the quality of the oil, but the break in metal particles in the oil that doesn't get trapped by the oil filter is the reason for the early drain. Historically I do the first drain at ~3k miles and then go the normal drain schedule that I plan on.

Back when I was building motors for myself and a few friends I would clean the block after I got it back from the machine shop paying attention to all the oil passages. I would drop the oil at 2 to 300 miles with a new filter and then 3 to 4K after that. And I never lost a motor unlike a rebuilt one I bought because I didn't have time. Our present 6.2 had the oil dropped at 350 miles and 5 to 7K after that. The only thing I've changed from factory was changing from 5-20 to 5-30 and any startup ticking noise has disappeared.
