e4od EXTREMELY hard shifts
So I am taking a calculated risk on buying a CCLB 7.3 97 with a messes up tranny that apparently runs through all the gears but shifts so hard that it breaks rear differentials (lol) but quite literally it does. I figured even with a used tranny swap or a stock rebuild I will be getting this truck at a good price ($2800). But I figure maybe it doesn't even need a tranny replacement or rebuild maybe there's just a sensor that needs replaced? Has anyone had extremely hard shifting before where it breaks diffs? The current owner has very limited info on the trans other then him believing its the shift kit that has been added causing this (maybe incorrectly) I checked the fluid out and it's good so im thinking the clutches aren't fried or anything. What do you guys think it could be. It shifts through all the gears.

The first thing to do is to read the codes. The auto parts stores that read codes free CANNOT read the codes that you need. I recommend Forscan. It's a free download at www,forscan.org. Their main page tells you how to pick an adapter to plug into the OBDII port. Once you have the codes we can diagnose what's wrong.
It is also possible that whoever installed the shift kit screwed it up and that is causing the harsh shifts.
