I have a 93 f-150 and the tranny seems to be shifting too sloppy. It takes too long shifting between gears and if Im on the gas it stalls and then shifts kinda hard.Does it need a rebuild or can I get away with a trans go shift kit and cleaning th escreen and putting better fluids in?
Ive been having the same problem with mine. So I hope somebody can give you a good answer. But I wouldnt recommend changing the fluid unless its burnt.
Hello friends, I may be able to help you with this problem. Go to your local parts store and buy a bottle of transmedic. Put it in with the transmission fluid level it shouldn't hurt. You may also have a weak or leaking front seal. It is not hard to change. One more suggestion is to check the trannie filter. Hope these suggestions will help you. Good luck!!
Holla!!
In my experience, additives have killed a lot of Ford transmissions. I was advised to put shudder stop in my T-bird last year, and it got worse. Talked to another mechanic (works on mainly fords) and he said that most all of the additives will hurt the performance on a Ford, and others.
Use Ford tranny fluid, I believe Mercon is spec for the E4OD, I've had good luck using Ford tranny fluid in Ford vehicles with NO additives.
Do NOT put any additives in your transmission, change the fluid and filter, including the draining of the torque converter, then put in a good name brand name Dextron/Mercon fluid, and give it 500 or so miles before you pass judgement on it, and if it stays the same or gets worse (which I doubt) take it to a local home town type transmission shop, and NOT the big name nationwide type places.
