i didn't like what i read about everyone having issues with over heating and wiring issues. plus everything i read said the mechanical fan from an 01 explorer moves a ton more air. so i swapped the whole motor, front dress and all into my 84 lol. I'm running a 2001 4.6 f150 fan and used a piece of flat stock to extend the housing. its also a 96 radiator and condensor mounted in there. still wiring it all up but she finally starts and moves!!! yay. This is the only pic I have that kind of shows it
I got the biggest stock alternaator I could at NAPA, a whole whopping 85 amps... I am definitely going for 170 or 200 once i get subwoofer.
What do you think the minimum is that I could get away with, without the sub that is?
do you know if I need the 6 and 13 oclock , what is it, g3 conversion? I am currently setup for 2 and 6 Oclock but it looks like I have provisions for noon and 6
power*******s.com (b a s t a r d s) is where I got my 220 amp 3g alternator from.
LMC truck has an A/C relay harness for the electric fan conversion. It will be delivered Monday, so I will let you know how it works. It allows you to not have to cut your factory wiring.
The LMC truck ac relay harness I could not use. It is its own controller itself for only the AC. The relay harness I got was from National Parts Depot. It was the Derale dual fan relay. I has an adjustable temperature probe and a wire for the AC. There is a big difference between a cheap relay harness and a good quality one. Before the cheap one that came with the fans drew alot of power so at idle, my alternator wasn't charging very well. With the Derale harness, my alternator works fine, and I can tell the fans blow more air that with the cheap harness.
If I read the posts correctly the best temperature for the fans to come on is around 200-210. Then they shut off between 195 and 200. Am I correct?
I had mine coming on at 200 and back off at 195. Someone here said that range was too close, so I bumped it up to come on at 203 and off at 195. Honestly I've had no issue with either one and my fan doesn't cycle on and off a too quickly (in my opinion). I just don't see the point of turning the fan on when the thermostat isn't even open yet (195 degree thermostat). Supposedly you get your best power and mileage when at operating temp... I'm getting 16mpg with my 5.8L, which I consider good mileage for a 351w.

I just ordered a Taurus fan and a Volvo 2 speed fan controller. Now I need a dual temp sensor. BMW makes one that comes on at 195* and 210*. Is 195 to early or not that big a deal.
Here's the link. The picture is old. I have the new design.
the description says it works with dual fans. I wonder if it would work with my 2 speed fan. It’s only sending a on/off for designated temps. My Volvo harness will control the actual power supply. Might be a winner!
