You had a lot nicer response than I would have originally posted...

Never heard of anyone installing an electric fan *cough MarkVIII *cough Taurus in a 73-79 Ford pick-up...

Do a search they are hundreds of pages on the conversion, along with the 3G alternator that is needed to go with it.

Car Craft ran a test of various fans, fixed fans robbed up to 45 horsepower... Clutched fans over 20.

Electric fan was like 2 horsepower.

I'll find the link later.

I will post pictures soon of the install that i am doing. It is not the MarkVIII fan but dual fans with an aluminum shroud. I am also adding a overflow tank and using a Ron Francis Ice Box controller for the fans. I just need to run the wiring and it will be done. I will post pictures as soon as its finished. I also just installed a new radiator and did not put the stock shroud back on because i planned on the electric fan swap and it hardly gets to the N (NORMAL) on the guage even while its sitting at an idle for an extended time. I think the electric fans will be more than enough to cool my 400, they seem to move plenty of air. If this set up works as good as its going to look i will be extremely happy.

Same here. 3G Alt, 98 mark VIII fan, and a delta current controll fan controller. Works great so far. Even fits in front of my 460.

So youre running a Delta controller? Ive been thinking pretty hard about one. I just wasnt sure how well the "fin probe" setup would work out. It looks good in theory, but wasn't sure. Is yours the variable speed controller? I snagged a fan out of an 06 Lincolin that is a variable speed setup instead of the 2 speed like the Mark VIII. It physically is the same dimensions as the Mark VIII. Trouble is, the controller on the 06 Fan wont work unless its hooked into the cars ECM because it requires a pulse width modulated signal to vary the speed. I could run it just single speed via a relay, but kind of like the variable speed idea, so that it's not "shock loading" the system every time the fan kicks on. Instead, it would require less amperage to get the fan started turning then ramp up as needed. So I was thinking I could just eliminate the Lincolin controller and use the Delta variable speed. Its going to go in front of my 4bt Cummins. I guess I'm just wondering how reliable the DC controller is.

that's the problem,
so many threads where people just mention the electric fan,
finding an actual install thread is not all that easy.

I too am considering this mod.

Ron Francis Ice Box Fan Controller

but that thing is pricy,
is there a cheaper one out there?
or would I have to run a switch?

Edit:
here's the Delta

I used the ron francis dual ice box controller on mine. I looked at about everything out there and its the best one ive seen. The quality of the controller and the wiring included is top notch and the instructions are clear and easy to understand. It is adjustable to your desired temp setting and it works flawlessly so far for me. I know its pricey but i thought it was worth it. Just my opinion.
