What is the trick to removing the wiper switch from my 54 dash?
The book says to use the "Special" tool to unscrew the bezel after removing the ****.
Problem is.....How to remove the ****? Is it pressed-on or threaded onto the shaft?
Mine is very tight to the shaft and I don't want to break it or the switch.
Thanks for your help.
Bob
Without looking I think there is a small screw holding the **** on the shaft. Then the bezel screws out. I think you can screw it out with a small flathead screwdriver.... carefully.
Thanks Abe and EffieTrucker. There is a small set screw at the base of the ****. If it was a snake it would have bit me. It takes a very small Allen wrench and off it comes. Now for the "Special" 1954 tool. I found a small needle-nosed pliers that open when you squeeze the handles. It works good but that nut has 4 square slots that would be best used with that "Special" tool of yesteryear. Anyway.....switch is removed and I thank you.

I have made my own "special tools" on many occasions by modifying the end of a piece of pipe or old, cheap deep socket, filing the appropriate teeth on the end to fit into the notches in the nut. It doesn't take much work and saves a ton of money, especially that million dollars shipping.
