On my 1991 EB, the intermittent wipers are not working properly I don't think. When I set the switch at what should be the shortest time between wipes, it still take about 25 seconds to cycle. This way too long but I'm not sure if it is broken or was just designed that way. I tried to get the switch out (I assume the timer is in the switch?) but couldn't figure out how to get the ***** off of the wiper switch or the light switch so I could get the little wood grain panel off. Can anybody advise? Thanks!
The ***** just pop off. Just pull evenly and straight out. They are on there TIGHT. I took mine off to get the panel off so I could check the switch for the tailgate window. There is also a small metal ring (looks like a tiny washer) that is tight fitting that needs to go back on.
I'm not sure about the wiper problem, but at least you can now get the panel off.
Thanks,I'll give it a try. Sure seems strange that they would install a **** that pulls off on the light switch since that's how you turn it on. Oh well, won't be the first strange thing I have encountered! Thanks again!
If the '91's ***** are anything like the '80's, there will be a small slot in the ****'s shaft, immediately behind the actual **** itself. Place a very small flat screwdriver blade (or cotter pin removal tool, hook tool, etc.) in this slot and push it far enough in to where it contacts the shaft of the switch. Then, pull the tool towards the driver's seat (out). This will take the tension off of a small metal clip that is set in to the **** to keep it from simply pulling off.
restorit is 100% correct,it's call a hook tool, and you can make yourself one. i made myself one out of a nut cracker pick tool, anyway thats what i had to use on my 87 bronc.
good luck,
Well, I got the ***** off, got the switch out and disassembled it. Some of the contactors inside looked dirty so I cleaned them and reassembled. Got the cycle time down to 8 seconds. I don't know if this is as fast as it should be but it's a heck of a lot better than it was!
