410 "stroker" build

I recently bought a 1973 f250 with a 360. I was thinking about stroking it to a 390 but then seen with a 428 crank, and 390 internals it would be a 410. I am looking for a tourqe build for sled pulling at the county fair and a fun driver. A Eagle crank 3.980 stroke is $430 on summit. What all would I need to complete this build to have a fully functional pickup, cam, head work, pistons, etc.? Trying to do this build on a budget with mostly stock parts but will not go cheap where things go wrong.

The larger engine will run better. The Eagle crank will require the 428 flywheel to balance.

Ok, I see people talking about externally ballance and internally balance, what does each mean

When Ford built the 428 they went to an externally balanced design using oddly enough 28oz just like a 289,302,351 etc. A regular 428 uses the weight in the back only. A 428 SCJ(different crank without extra square 4th counterweight for some reason and different rods) uses a weight on the balancer spacer similar to the '79 and up 460 engine.

External balance is fine on an engine that's going to run under 6500rpm or so and the only real practical drawback is that it makes the flywheel part of the engine assembly.

410 is the 390 bore with a 428 crank, the FE "short" rods as found in everything except 352/390 and 427, AND A SHORT approx 1.66" flat top piston. Advertised compression ratio was 10.5 : 1.

I built a 410, it runs well. If I were to do it again, I would build a 445 for not much, if any more money (pump gas friendly pistons are expensive for a 410).

If I remember correctly the Scat crankshaft site used to say their cranks for FE's had to be externally balanced. However, they can definitely be internally balanced. I'd double check the need for an Eagle crank to require external balance. They may be okay for internal balance as well.

They can be internally balanced but to do so will require putting in a few slugs of heavy metal. Also the Scat cranks that are stroker cranks and intended to be used with a 2.100 journal 6.700 rod probably will internally balance(even the cast ones) because those features make that a ton easier, smaller lighter journal, larger counterweight diameter and a shorter lighter piston.
