Question 390 stroker info?

I am rebuilding my 390. I was thinking about putting in a 428 crank. I am not sure what all is involved. If anyone has any tips or book or articles that they can recommend i would appreciate it.

390 block, 390 rods, pistons for a 75 or 76 model truck 390. This combination will yield 410 cubic inches with a standard bore. Also, scroll a little further down the main forrum page to the FE section. The guys over there are great.

I am just finishing up a similiar build. I am currently building a 418cid Fe for my truck. Take a look in my gallery at some of the pics. I can give you some good suggestion on a cheap build and how in depth you want to go. I am building mine mainly for race but can help with a milder build.

I would appreciate it polcat if you gave me some info. I have been running around in circles trying to findout all I need to know. I have been told if I am going to put a 428 crank in my 390 then I need to hone the the crank down. I am rather confussed if I need to modify some components or if I can just bolt it in. I have a new cam, intake, carb lifters, and heads that I am going to use. I just need to figure out what pistons, rods, and crank I am going to use and what i need to do. Thanks

Read the first post in your thread again. It is accurate. As far as the rotating assembly it is all bolt in. You do not need to do anything that you wouldn't already do if you were just rebuilding it as a 390. Be sure to have it balanced and you can use the 390 flywheel.

390 block.
390 rods.
390 truck (low compression) pistons.
428 crank, internally balanced.
390 flywheel.
assemble normally.

everything in a 390 can be used in a 410 with the 428 crank. The 428 crank is externally balanced and needs to be internally balanced if you want to use your old flywheel or flexplate. Low compression 390 pistons will work and depending on the heads will give you around 10 to 1 or less compression ratio. If you want to get real radical (like me) you can get a set of a 390 stock pistons and have them shaved dowen to get 0 deck clearance which will raise you compression ratio a bunch. My pistons I had shaved to set .004" out of the hole to give me a little more squench and get my compression up. Other than this you do not need to do any other modifications. E-mail if you need any more info. As far as cost it. it was around $80 to have my pistons shaved and around $250 to get the assembly balanced.
