Where did you order your up pipes from? I was looking at blackhorse-racing and not finding just the up pipes - they have the whole kit with EBPV delete pedestal, etc.
I don't see the baby's butt and other Associated Hardware in that listing but I didn't open the listing from eBay. Your original babies butt won't work with bellowed up pipes
Yep E99. I really wish it was a L99 or newer it’s been interesting to say the least finding parts for it.
Looking around nobody (including RiffRaff) sells new collectors in their E99 up pipe kits.. maybe my stock one is fine to use with bellowed up pipes.. hmm.
Against my better judgment I ordered the eBay specials. Hoping for the best at least they’re easy to change if they don’t work LOL j/k.
A friend of mine is running the eBay up pipes and the fit and finish was great they’re working good so far hope I can say the same for these
Not sure about the E99 stuff.
I installed a cheap Amazon set on my 2001 and an even cheaper $60 eBay special set on dad’s 2000. Both of them worked fine and came will all required parts.
I have read on here to be sure and try the baby’s butt fit to the turbo on the bench. Sometimes the fit here needs massaged.
Glad they say use the stock collector. Curious what it looks like as the OEM collector is a different design than the bellowed up pipes I'm familiar with. Also good the E99 uppies are only $140, way cheaper than before. Typically I'd say this is the moment to change over to late 99, but this might work out just fine.
And yes, dry fit all the parts on the bench in case some grinding is necessary.
Looks like I’ll have plenty of help with people that have some experience with this type of repair so that’s great. Gonna dive in Wednesday oh boy. I’ll be sure to take some pics and bring you guys along for the ride.
Any tips for getting the clamp off the back of the turbo where it attaches to the collector/y pipe? Reading and watching videos it seems that one might give me some trouble.
RacinJasonWV has a great method above which started with SkySkiJason. I have used a small pry bar, a punch, 2x4 and a lot of swear words in the past to get the clamp between the turbo and collector off. You will get it, just remember that you can walk away and come back to it if frustration begins to take control. This is one of the most frustrating areas to work with on these trucks, so you are not alone if you do become frustrated.
We always appreciate pictures and being along for the ride. Most of us have been there before, several times for a lot of us.
I generally undo the up pipes from the manifolds first, in most cases they will shake and come down out of collector ~ removed from below the truck, then I just remove turbo with the collector intact and deal with that on the bench, which is easy.
Great advice guys thank you. Hopefully I won’t get too frustrated I stocked the fridge with beer so that should help lol! Plus I’ll have a lot of help which I’m super grateful for.
