To start off, I'd like to say I'm a fairly inexperienced young guy when it comes to transmissions. Having said that, I have a 1977 F250 with a 460 and a c6 tranny. Since I got the truck the transmission has developed a few leaks and now this weekend I lost a quart of fluid out of nowhere and topped it off. For the last month or so I think I've been experiencing shuddering while accelerating, but I can't confirm because I've never experienced it previously and my tranny tunnel gets hot enough to burn yourself on and after parking it last night, my coolant was boiling since my cooler lines also run through my radiator as well as an external cooler.
So I guess my question is, should I look at replacing my torque converter and if so, what stall speed do I need.
Also just a side question, what size bolts fit the inspection plate on the c6?

Correction: After looking for a video example I believe it's slippage that I'm experiencing instead of shuddering. I don't think it's slipping between gears, but around 2nd gear it seems to slip 3 times every single time this happens.
What does the trans fluid look and smell like? Red, brown, or black? Does it have a burnt odor?
Well it seems my fluid level is lower than I thought from yesterday or it leaked more, but from what I could actually get on the stick, it's still a bright red and doesn't smell burnt. I'm gonna get it warmed up on a test drive to see if I can confirm that it's good. Also I should add that the fluid was changed oround 15000 miles ago after a leak was fixed.
Took it for a drive and the fluid is still too low to get much on the stick, but what I did get on the stick was still red and didn't smell funny. I know it's not gonna work right if the fluids low, but it acts funny regardless
