Good afternoon my friends,
what is the best way to check the fuel pressure on 6.0 E-series? To get to the upper fuel filter bowl I have to disassemble half the engine.
Thanks in advance.
That fuel filter housing also has a test port just like the F series, just tilted the other way. You can route it out with a grease gun hose, then run your gauge there.
M-chan is right. Those gallery plugs are easy to get to, or IIRC, at least one of them is - I was thinking it was the passenger side, but prolly wrong. I've also been told that the aftermarket billet regulator caps with the built in test port work too, although it can be a bit of a tight squeeze getting it in there.
You connect to the rear side of the head. It has a lower spec to account for the pressure drop in the head and line from the filter, 38 psi min at wot IIRC.

New info to me! This might be the process I need to use on my ambulance. The one that never started again after I replaced the oil cooler. The dealer tech wanted to chase a fuel issue down the lines to the block, but the labor to remove all that in the Eseries was crazy, so I did it myself. Didn't find a restriction.
But, anyway, checking the pressure at the back of the heads would tell me if I'm getting pressure that far. The dealer tech attached his gauge just in front of the frame-mounted pump and said it was good, then took the regulator bowl apart and said none of it was restricted. That's when I removed the fuel lines and took those little ***** out of the end to ensure there was no restriction (prolly stupid, but I have replacement fuel lines to go back on with).
Finally, my question: what would the pressure be at the back of the head while cranking, since it never starts? And either head has the same pressure?
You don't need to crank to get fuel pressure. Just turn the key on. IMO the pressure specification should be the same at the back of the head - 45 psig minimum. Probably should be higher than that without the engine on, but 45 psig is a start.
