Hey everyone, my name is Kenneth from Louisiana. I have a 2003 f250 6.0 that is running rough. When I start it, it runs/idles good and regular for 5 seconds then idles up to around 1000rpm and idles rough. I changed the ICP on it and the IPR on it. I can rev it up and it will blow some black smoke out the exhaust (don’t have a programmer on it). But this started when it was running good and I was behind a f250 6.7 and he gave his the throttle and I pressed mine too to keep up with him (from 30mph to about 45mph) and my truck died out and didn’t want to start back up. I tried starting it for weeks and one week it cranked back up and it ran good for 5 seconds then idled up and idles rough. I’m not sure what’s wrong with it. Just trying to see if someone else had this problem and found out what was wrong with it. To where I could possibly get mine fixed ASAP.
I have video of the truck starting and running good for around 5 seconds then idling up. But if someone can help me out with this truck problem that would be greatly appreciated!
Your chances of fixing this without being able to read live data and check codes is virtually nil. No one here can help you much. You need to get an OBDII reader and one of the smartphone apps to connect to your truck. Whole set up is less than $50. Forscan and TorquePro are the most popular here. Just Google them and search their sites. I expect both provide links to OBDII devices that work with them.

Ahhh I understand totally. I wasn’t really thinking about a scanner to have to check it. I was thinking that maybe someone had a similar problem with their 6.0 and would be able to tell me some things that could be the problem. But I’m going to for sure get a scanner to be able to find out if anything isn’t right and stuff. I’ll have to figure out how to work the scanner for sure too lol. But I really appreciate letting me know I need a scanner for sure to figure out what’s bad and stuff.

Its not hard at all. Scanner will be detailed and kind of guide you on what to do. You just need to scan for codes. Depending on the scanner, you will probably have to scroll to retrieve all codes. Write them all down and post them here. Good luck man!
