Ok, looking at some gauge options to better monitor the health of my engine, when I get it running again that is (LOL). I really like the Glow Shift gauges, especially the 7 color tinted versions. They seem to have a very good selection of gauges and installation options. I wish to retain my driver side "A" pillar handle, so a pod there is out of the question. So, it looks like a three gauge dash pod is the order of the day.
Having said that, if you were to choose which three parameters to watch, what would they be? I don't do any heavy towing, and mods have been very minimal. Mainly 4" turbo back and a PCM tune with 155/stock injectors. The old girl is mainly a daily driver and trips to Reno once in awhile. I'm thinking fuel pressure, HPOP and EGT? Ideas or thoughts? B.
Pete (87crewdually) did a nice setup, drilling into the top side of the reservoir and installing a gauge there. You can buy bulkhead fittings to do that too, I don't remember what he used..
I've got a Glowshift 3-in-1 diesel gauge monitoring EGT, boost & fuel pressure. I got their pod for it, & with a little trimming, it fits nicely under the grab handle on the A pillar. I use an Edge attitude monitor next to it to watch ECT, EOT, trans temp, and battery voltage. Another setup I thought about was using an old android phone with Torque Pro to replace the Edge. Bluetooth OBDII dongle, suction cup mount, done. Had everything to do this, but the screen on my Galaxy S8 took a dump, & I had to go back to using the old S7.
There are all kinds of electronic options to monitor stuff that’s in the computer. Gauges are nice to see the things that a digital monitor can’t show. Some of these are:
Fuel Pressure
Cooling system Pressure
Low Side Oil Pressure
Exhaust Gas Temp
Boost (some trucks)
Battery Voltage (actual is often a little off from digital reading)
I've got the glowshift single gauge pillar mount and it came out very clean, still retaining the grab handle. I'm just watching Fuel Pressure there - the rest is Torque Pro on my phone (or not monitoring)...
Glowshifthas gauges with 3 values in a single pod. I got one of those in a single pillar pod, boost around the dial on the outside, fuel pressure and EGT in the lower half of the face in digital format. Many different colors for lighting. I like it.
I really like that transducer in the Degause bottle there Jack. Do you know if that poster used a bulkhead fitting there? I prolly need to search for that poster. I see the single "A" pillar pod from GlowShift as well. Combined with the three gauge dash pod would give four gauges. Definitely something to mull over. Good ideas guys. Thanks. B.
For the sensor in the degas, I used a sharp drill bit and a sharp NPT tap being careful not to over cut the threads. Maybe not for some to perform. A bulkhead or T inline would be easier maybe.
I used the 2 gauge single pod from Glowshift. One is fuel other is the coolant. I used red Rotella coolant so I used red display. The straw color for diesel.
