I love my 300 I-6 it's in one of our 1978 F250 4wd's. That's the truck actually the wife and I use the most for recon missions . It gets 19 mpg and will cruise at 70 mph all day long.

Bought a $130 8.8" Ford Assy. from a 94 E150. It's maybe 60 miles away.

Check the width between the centering pins on that axle. As far as i know the E series vans had different spring spacing than the F series trucks. You're probably going to have to move the spring perches to get it to fit.

Why do you stress the gear? It's a 4.10. I rode in a friends '70 Chevelle with a 4.11. I loved it. I try it, I don't like it, I swap it out.
But do I have to put doolies on? Not sure my compromised frame could handle that.
If you're going to drive it in 4 wheel drive then the front and rear axles need to be the same gear ratio, that's why it was mentioned i would imagine.

Pretty sure that the gears have a difference now and before. I drive in 4x4 at plow speeds. I have a Wrangler for serious off road activities.

near aug. update

but then again an intact transfer case is a good thing
I gambled $130 on a rear 9 inch assy. from a '92 econoline
close, but no cigar. it was a fun ride to st. johns MI "parts store"
in a rented 2020 (dodge) RAM to pick it up tho.
as landscape / garden priorities wane
am back on the '78
yesterday I dis-assembled the wood bed
(removed the orig. metal bed (ca. 2010ish) to drop in a new aftermarket
gas tank, traded the metal for firewood)
to drain the tank (too new a holley carb to take a chance)
and to see just where this 11 year old tank is already leaking
good chance to re-re-inspect the frame too
rear end can wait until i hear that
bored 300+ six lobe with it's new cam

What exactly is going on here.
that had a 9" in it. Those tubes are the houseing not changeable.

I would fix whatever is wrong with it. A dana 60 will go in but would be a down grade.

The front hp 44 if it has welded on radius arm wedges is sought after

Pretty much the only reason I agreed to take my truck for payment for welding work was because it has a hp44 435/235 9" combo

I'll haveI'll go back and reread this thread and figure exactly whats going on here.

It seems everything is being done to not KISS it (keep it stupid simple) an 8.8 really

I reread this thread and im out i have no idea how to help you.

I did see mention of being worried about posting certain links. I never worry about censorinhg my own speech if it happens that something censors my speech for me then I leave because if I can't share what I want to share to with others then its no longer a forumn or welcome place..

I am perfectly fine having my 4 letter words censored

like I wrote, this tr. proj. got dropped for a couple of months
you were correct, we are talking 8.8's
found this y o u t u be
I know of a welder down the street that I think could do this
that was plan B a couple of months ago
I also needed to verify front axle gear
and get the approp. rear 8.8 R & P
an 8.8 was on the truck when I bought it
but it didn't come factory that way
